Super Eagles and Galatasaray forward, Victor Osimhen, has been crowned GQ Sportsman of the Year in Turkey, recognising his outstanding performances both domestically and internationally.

The 26-year-old striker received the prestigious award at a black-tie ceremony in Istanbul on Wednesday, an accolade organised annually by the Turkish edition of GQ Magazine, a leading international men’s fashion and lifestyle publication. The award celebrates achievers across sports, music, and film, highlighting Osimhen’s impact on the footballing world.

Since joining Galatasaray, Osimhen has become a fan favourite, playing a key role in the club’s domestic success. In his debut season, he scored 37 goals and provided 7 assists in 41 appearances, helping the club win both the Super Lig and Turkish Cup. His impressive performances also prompted Galatasaray to break the Turkish transfer record, paying €75 million to sign him permanently from Napoli.

Despite injury setbacks this season, Osimhen continues to shine, netting 11 goals in 14 matches across all competitions. For Nigeria, he remains a key figure, scoring 6 goals in 5 qualifiers after missing the first four matches, helping the Super Eagles reach the World Cup play-offs.

Looking ahead to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco (Dec 21 – Jan 18, 2026), Osimhen is expected to lead the Super Eagles’ attack as they chase their fourth continental title.

During his acceptance speech, Osimhen expressed gratitude to the organisers, the club, and supporters:

“I want to say a big thank you to GQ. Can’t forget my Galatasaray family. This means so much to my family and me. I appreciate everyone who has supported me up to this hour. I will continue to do my best for my family, for Galatasaray, for the fans all over the world.”

The event also celebrated other notable Turkish personalities, including actor Aras Aydın (International Achiever of the Year), actress Sinem Ünsal (Woman of the Year), and singer-songwriter Edis (Music Person of the Year). In total, 11 awards were presented, highlighting excellence across multiple industries.
