Cultural clash sparks FIFA debate ahead of Seattle fixture.

Egypt & Iran Push Back Against Pride Match

Egypt and Iran have formally requested FIFA to cancel LGBTQ+ celebrations at their 2026 World Cup match in Seattle, set during Seattle Pride Weekend.

The game was designated a “Pride Match” by local organizers to promote inclusivity. However, both countries’ football associations argue that such events conflict with their cultural and religious values, where same-sex relationships face strict restrictions.

Despite the opposition, Seattle organizers insist the Pride celebrations will continue as planned, highlighting a growing tension between global sporting events and local cultural norms.
