Uzoho arrives first as Nigeria begin serious preparations for Morocco 2025.

Super Eagles

Nigeria’s preparation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has officially begun, with 10 Super Eagles players already reporting to camp in Cairo, Egypt. The team’s camp opened on Sunday at the Renaissance Hotel, where all coaches and backroom staff were already in place ahead of the continental showpiece.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), goalkeeper Francis Uzoho was the first player to arrive, touching down shortly after 2 a.m. local time. His arrival marks a return to the national team after more than a year away. He was later joined by Stanley Nwabali, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, taking the early number of players in camp to four.

The squad count later rose to 10 players following the arrival of Amas Obasogie, Semi Ajayi, Ademola Lookman, Igoh Ogbu, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Tochukwu Nnadi. More players are expected to arrive in the coming hours as Nigeria intensifies preparations, with the team scheduled to hold their first training session on Sunday.

As part of their AFCON build-up, the three-time African champions will face Egypt in an international friendly on Tuesday at the Cairo International Stadium. The Super Eagles head into AFCON 2025 in Morocco aiming to secure a fourth continental crown, having previously won the tournament in 1980, 1994, and 2013, and hoping to go one step further than their runners-up finish at the last edition.
