Portuguese midfielder opens up on Old Trafford frustrations and decision to stay.

Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has revealed that the club wanted to sell him this summer after interest from Saudi Arabia, but the intervention of manager Ruben Amorim convinced him to remain at Old Trafford.

Speaking to Canal 11, Fernandes said: “My passion and empathy for the club were the same, but there comes a point where money becomes more important to them than you. The club wanted me to leave… but the coach wanted me to stay.”

The 31-year-old, who has scored 103 goals in 307 appearances since joining United in 2020, admitted he was hurt by the hierarchy’s willingness to let him go. He acknowledged that a move to Saudi Arabia had crossed his mind, following in the footsteps of compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo, who left for the kingdom in 2023.

Fernandes’ comments underline the tension between player loyalty and club decisions amid a summer of high-profile transfer speculation.
