Maliya Boys climb out of relegation zone with historic win, coach eyes strong second-round push.

Bosso Dreams Big After Statement Victory

Barau FC head coach Ladan Bosso has declared his ambition for a continental ticket following his team’s emphatic 4-1 demolition of Rivers United at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on Friday.

The 58-year-old tactician, a former Nigeria U-20 coach, emphasized the need to maintain momentum into the second round.

“The most important thing for all of us is how we finish the first round. If we enter the second round with this kind of tempo, determination, and commitment, I think we should evolve for a continental ticket,” Bosso said post-match.

The result lifted Barau FC to 16th in the NPFL table with 20 points from 17 matches, moving them out of the relegation zone.

Bosso praised his players’ composure and clinical finishing, especially after conceding early.

“That one goal against us was like a wake-up call, but it did not wind the players down. I give the players kudos for not being discouraged,” he added.

Match Highlights

Despite falling behind in the fourth minute, the Maliya Boys roared back. Usman Maidubji equalized from the penalty spot in the 25th minute, before Jimmy Ambrose put the hosts ahead just before halftime.

Substitute Kabir Abdullahi, a former Rivers United player, stole the show with goals in the 64th and 72nd minutes to complete the rout – Barau’s biggest top-flight victory in club history.

A massive boost for Bosso’s pragmatic side as they build towards a potential CAF spot in the new year!
