Club History

Manchester City trace their roots to 1880 when St. Mark’s Church in West Gorton was formed to give local men constructive activities. The club evolved into Ardwick A.F.C. in 1887 and then reformed as Manchester City in 1894. Over the decades they’ve had highs and lows—winning league titles, cups, suffering relegation—but in recent times have become one of England’s dominant clubs under strong ownership and with big investments.
