Long-Awaited Rewards Handed Over in Morocco

The Federal Government has finally fulfilled its promise to the Super Eagles squad that won silver at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, presenting housing and land grants to players and officials in Fès, Morocco, on Monday, December 22, 2025, just a day before Nigeria’s 2025 AFCON opener against Tanzania.

The presentation was facilitated by the National Sports Commission (NSC) at the team’s base, nearly two years after the 2023 tournament (held January-February 2024 in Ivory Coast), where Jose Peseiro’s side lost 2-1 to the hosts in the final.

Upon return from Côte d’Ivoire, President Bola Tinubu honored the team with Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) national awards (or Officer of the Order of the Niger where applicable), alongside pledges of flats in Abuja and land plots in their states of origin.

NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko, NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, and Senate Sports Committee Chairman Senator Abdul Ningi oversaw the fulfillment, with Certificates of Occupancy now issued.

Team media officer Promise Efoghe confirmed: “The Federal Government, through the NSC, has fulfilled its 2024 pledge on housing rewards to the Super Eagles.”

Boost Ahead of 2025 Campaign

The timely gesture comes as the current squad, under coach Eric Chelle, prepares for Group C action: vs Tanzania (Dec 23), Tunisia (Dec 27), and Uganda (Dec 30).

Nigeria, three-time champions (1980, 1994, 2013), are chasing a fourth title after missing the 2026 World Cup.

Similar rewards were extended to the Super Falcons (cash for 10th WAFCON) and D’Tigress (pledges for fifth AfroBasket).
