Club History

West Ham United’s roots go back to 1895 when the club was founded as Thames Ironworks, a works team for the shipbuilding company on the River Thames. After turning professional and eventually becoming West Ham United, the club developed a reputation for producing talented players (like Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst, and later many others) and for playing attractive attacking football. They played at the Boleyn Ground (Upton Park) from 1904 until 2016, when they moved to the London Stadium. Over time they’ve won a number of major honours, including several FA Cups and the 2023 UEFA Conference League, balancing periods of success with challenges, but always retaining a strong fan base in East London.
