Troost-Ekong Back but Al-Kholood Fall Short

Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong made his long-awaited return from injury for Al-Kholood, but the Saudi Pro League side fell to a 2-1 defeat against Al-Qadsiah on Thursday, December 26, 2025.

The Nigerian centre-back, sidelined for several weeks with a hamstring problem, played the full 90 minutes in his comeback match.

Al-Kholood took an early lead through a goal from their forward line, but Al-Qadsiah fought back with two second-half strikes to secure all three points.

Troost-Ekong’s presence added stability to the defense, but the team couldn’t hold on as the hosts capitalized on transitions.

The result leaves Al-Kholood hovering in mid-table, with the defeat halting any momentum from recent performances.

Despite the loss, Troost-Ekong’s return is a major boost for the club and Nigeria ahead of key fixtures, including the Super Eagles’ upcoming AFCON commitments.
