Governor Dapo Abiodun Extends Condolences After Fatal Crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The Ogun State Government, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, has issued a heartfelt statement mourning the victims of the tragic road accident involving British-Nigerian heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua on Monday, December 29, 2025.

The incident occurred along the busy Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the Makun/Sagamu axis, where Joshua’s convoy vehicle collided with a stationary truck. Two male foreign nationals tragically died on the spot, with their remains deposited at the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu.

Joshua, who was travelling from Lagos to Sagamu with three others, narrowly escaped death. He and the driver were promptly rescued by security personnel and rushed to hospital, where they are receiving medical attention alongside others with varying injuries.

In an official statement, the government described the crash as “deeply unfortunate and painful,” extending condolences to the bereaved families: “Our hearts go out to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in this tragic incident, which the State considers a devastating loss.”

They added prayers for the repose of the departed souls and speedy recovery of the injured: “As we mourn collectively, we pray… May Almighty God grant the families left behind the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”
