Cranes Forward Thanks Nation Despite Group Stage Elimination.

Uche Ikpeazu

Uche Ikpeazu has shared an emotional message following Uganda Cranes‘ elimination from AFCON 2025 after a 3-1 defeat to Nigeria’s Super Eagles in their final Group C game on Tuesday night in Fez, Morocco.

Paul Put’s side finished bottom of the group with just one point from three matches, bowing out despite a spirited consolation goal from Rodgers Mato.

Raphael Onyedika starred for Nigeria with a brace, while Paul Onuachu added the third in a dominant display that sealed the Super Eagles’ perfect nine points and top spot.

The Nigerian-born forward, who switched allegiance to Uganda, posted on X: “My @UgandaCranes family, yesterday we fell short. As disappointing/painful as it is, we gave our very best and we will learn from it and be back stronger. It has been an honour to represent our nation and wear the Uganda Cranes badge with pride. We don’t complain we give thanks.”

Ikpeazu’s positive outlook resonates amid the heartbreak, as Uganda reflect on a tournament of near-misses. The Cranes showed fight but couldn’t convert chances against stronger opposition.

Nigeria march on to the Round of 16 against Mozambique on January 5. Tough luck, Cranes – heads up for the future.
