Burkina Faso Beat Sudan 2-0 to Secure Second; Sudan Advance as Best Third.

Algeria Burkina Faso AFCON 2025 Group E

Algeria wrapped up a flawless Group E campaign at AFCON 2025 with a comfortable 3-1 win over already-eliminated Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday, December 31, in Rabat.

The Desert Foxes, already qualified, rotated heavily but still dominated. Zineddine Belaïd headed home in the 18th minute, Fares Chaïbi doubled the lead seven minutes later, and Hadj Moussa made it 3-0 in the 32nd. Emilio Nsue pulled one back for Equatorial Guinea early in the second half, but it was mere consolation as the Nzalang Nacional finished bottom with zero points.

In the simultaneous fixture, Burkina Faso secured second place with a controlled 2-0 victory over Sudan. Lassina Traoré and Arsène Kouassi scored to give the Stallions six points – bouncing back from their earlier loss to Algeria.

Sudan, despite the defeat, advance to the Round of 16 as one of the best third-placed teams thanks to their earlier shock win over Equatorial Guinea.

Final Group E Standings:

  • Algeria: 9 points (qualified as winners)
  • Burkina Faso: 6 points (qualified as runners-up)
  • Sudan: 3 points (qualified as best third)
  • Equatorial Guinea: 0 points (eliminated)

The group stage concludes today – knockouts begin January 5 with Nigeria vs Mozambique already locked in. More drama ahead in Morocco.
