Blackburn Defender Out for “Couple of Weeks” But Remains in Camp for Recovery.

Ryan Alebiosu injury update AFCON 2025

Blackburn Rovers loanee Ryan Alebiosu will remain with the Super Eagles squad at AFCON 2025 despite the deep cut on his right leg suffered during Nigeria’s 3-1 win over Uganda on December 30.

Initial fears suggested a month-long absence that could rule the 24-year-old out of the tournament, but scans on Wednesday revealed a less severe injury – sidelining him for just a couple of weeks.

Sources close to the camp (including Blackburn Xtra) confirm Alebiosu will recover within the Nigeria setup in Morocco and will not return early to Blackburn, giving him a chance to potentially feature later if the Super Eagles advance deep.

The London-born defender, eligible through Nigerian heritage, made a memorable senior debut against the Cranes – playing the full 90 minutes despite the gash requiring immediate treatment.

Nigeria, perfect with nine points in Group C, face Mozambique in the Round of 16 on Monday, January 5, 2026, in Fès. Coach Eric Chelle retains depth at right-back with Bright Osayi-Samuel and others.
