Nigeria Defender’s Cut Not Serious as Super Eagles Prepare for AFCON Knockout Clash.

Blackburn Rovers head coach Valerien Ismael has delivered reassuring news regarding defender Ryan Alebiosu, who picked up an injury while representing Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The 23-year-old right-back, on loan from Arsenal before making a permanent switch to Rovers, made his debut for the Super Eagles in the group stage. Unfortunately, the milestone was overshadowed by a cut sustained during the match, initially raising concerns about his participation in the remainder of the tournament.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Ismael alleviated fears: “Ryan Alebiosu played 90 minutes for Nigeria with no problem. He has a cut, but it’s nothing major for us.”

Despite the positive assessment, Alebiosu was absent from Nigeria’s training session on Thursday as he continues his recovery. Head coach Eric Chelle will monitor his progress closely ahead of the crucial Round of 16 tie.

The Super Eagles face Mozambique’s Mambas in Fès on Monday in what will be their second-ever AFCON encounter. Nigeria dominated the previous meeting, securing a convincing 3-0 victory at the 2010 tournament in Angola.

With the three-time champions advancing as group winners, fans hope Alebiosu can return to bolster the defense as they aim for a fourth continental title.
