Super Eagles Boss Dedicates Award to Staff, Eyes Bigger Prize.

Eric Chelle

Nigeria’s Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has described his selection as the Best Coach of the Group Stage at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations as a significant motivation for himself and the entire team.

The Malian tactician earned the accolade after masterminding a flawless group stage campaign, leading the three-time champions to three consecutive victories and a maximum nine points. Nigeria shares the distinction of a 100% record with Algeria’s Desert Foxes, while the Super Eagles top the goal-scoring charts with eight strikes—one ahead of Algeria and Senegal.

In an interview with thenff.com, Chelle humbly dedicated the recognition to his backroom staff: “I am happy about this recognition. But I will like to give the credit to my backroom staff who work tirelessly to make the team function. This development is a good motivation for me, the players and the entire squad.”

However, the former Mali coach emphasized that the award is secondary to the ultimate goal: “However, this is not why we are here. We are here for something bigger and better. We will not get ahead of ourselves and think we are the best. We will continue to work hard and stay focused for every match as it comes.”

Ademola Lookman

Ademola Lookman, the Atalanta winger, was the sole Super Eagles representative in the Group Stage Best XI, capping a strong start for Nigeria in Morocco.

As the team prepares for the Round of 16 showdown with Mozambique, Chelle’s grounded approach underscores their determination to chase a fourth AFCON title.
