One-Off Move to Qatar in 2027 Due to Scheduling Conflicts.

Spanish Super Cup Saudi Arabia contract renewal

The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has secured a contract extension with Saudi Arabia to host the Supercopa de España until at least 2030, ensuring the tournament’s lucrative partnership continues.

However, the 2027 edition will exceptionally move to Doha, Qatar, due to scheduling clashes in Saudi Arabia – including the AFC Asian Cup (January 7 to February 5, 2027) and the inaugural Esports Olympic Games.

This one-year shift allows Saudi to accommodate multiple major events, with the Super Cup returning to venues like King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah from 2028 onward.

The current deal, generating over €50 million annually for the RFEF and participating clubs, has transformed the competition since its four-team format debuted abroad in 2020.

RFEF president Rafael Louzán highlighted the financial benefits, noting the shift from modest revenues in Spain to substantial income boosting national football.

The ongoing tournament in Jeddah (2026 edition) underscores the successful collaboration, with talks ongoing for further extensions potentially to 2034.

This arrangement provides stability for LaLiga’s elite while navigating regional event calendars.
