Club History

Futbol Club Barcelona was founded on November 29, 1899, by Joan Gamper and a group of Swiss, English, and Catalan players, adopting the motto “Més que un club” for its Catalan identity. Early success came in the 1920s with the Camp Nou opening in 1957, but global dominance arrived under Johan Cruyff’s “Dream Team” in the early 1990s, winning four straight La Liga titles and the club’s first European Cup in 1992. Pep Guardiola’s tiki-taka revolution (2008–2012) with Messi, Xavi, and Iniesta delivered 14 trophies, including two Champions Leagues (2009, 2011) and the historic 2015 treble under Luis Enrique. Despite financial struggles and Messi’s 2021 departure, Barcelona has secured 27 La Liga titles, 5 Champions Leagues, and 31 Copas del Rey, with the renovated Spotify Camp Nou (2026 completion) and emerging stars like Yamal reinforcing its status as a global football powerhouse.
