Rivers United Suffer Narrow 2-1 Defeat to RS Berkane in Uyo

Rivers United endured a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to RS Berkane in their CAF Champions League matchday two clash at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Friday night.

The Port Harcourt club now face a second consecutive defeat in the group stage, leaving them under pressure to bounce back in upcoming fixtures.

The hosts initially took the lead when Berkane midfielder Mamadou Camara diverted the ball into his own net eight minutes before halftime. Rivers United, under Finidi George, held on to the advantage for most of the match, but the game turned dramatically in stoppage time.

Youness El Kaabi equalised for the visitors in the seventh minute of added time, before Mounir Chouiar struck the decisive winner just a minute later, snatching victory for the Moroccan side.

Rivers United will now look to recover when they face Zambia’s Power Dynamos in their next group-stage match on January 23, 2026. The team will be eager to return to winning ways and keep their CAF Champions League ambitions alive.
