Super Eagles striker hits double as Trabzonspor extend strong league form.

Paul Onuachu

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu delivered another standout performance, scoring twice to help Trabzonspor secure a 3–1 win over Konyaspor at Papara Park, Sportblits.com reports.

In excellent form this season, Onuachu retained his place in Trabzonspor’s starting lineup for their 14th Super Lig fixture. However, the hosts fell behind after 17 minutes when Okay Yokuşlu unintentionally diverted the ball into his own net.

Trabzonspor responded strongly, dominating possession though struggling to carve out clear chances. Their breakthrough came in the 39th minute when Ernest Muci won a penalty after a lengthy VAR check. Onuachu calmly converted in the 43rd minute to level the score heading into halftime.

The Black Sea Storm came out firing in the second half and needed just five minutes to take the lead. Following a smooth attacking sequence, Mustafa Eskihellaç delivered a low cross that Onuachu finished clinically into the bottom corner for 2–1.

Six minutes later, Muci added Trabzonspor’s third to make it 3–1. The hosts had opportunities to extend their lead but were unable to convert further chances, sealing the win at full time.

Which Record Did Paul Onuachu Break?

It was an all-round impressive outing for Onuachu. Beyond his brace, he recorded:

  • 4 shots
  • 2 key passes
  • 39 touches
  • 2 clearances

According to Opta Can, Onuachu’s goals, bringing his tally to 11 in the league, make him only the third foreign player in Trabzonspor history to score at least 10 goals in each of his first two seasons at the club.

The only others to achieve this are fellow Nigerian Anthony Nwakaeme and Egyptian forward Trezeguet.

Onuachu also currently tops the Turkish Super Lig scoring chart, with Eldor Shomurodov of Istanbul Basaksehir close behind on 10 goals.
