Super Eagles Midfielder Frank Onyeka Misses Fourth Straight EPL Game.

Frank Onyeka

Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka was once again left on the bench as Brentford secured a 3-1 victory over visiting Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Nigerian international has now been benched in four consecutive Premier League matches for Brentford. His last appearance in the English topflight came on October 25, in a 3-2 win against Liverpool, while his most recent outing for the club was in the Carabao Cup against Grimsby Town on October 28.

With Saturday’s match heading for a stalemate, Brentford finally broke the deadlock in the 81st minute, as Igor Thiago converted a penalty. Burnley quickly responded, with Zian Flemming leveling the score from the spot just four minutes later. Brentford regained the lead a minute after Burnley’s equaliser, thanks to Thiago’s second goal, before Dango Ouattara sealed the win in the 92nd minute.

The victory moved Brentford to eighth place on 19 points, while Burnley remain 19th with 10 points in the league table.

Onyeka has made nine Premier League appearances this season, providing one assist, but has yet to start in recent matches.

At the international level, Onyeka featured for the Super Eagles during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoffs in Morocco, where Nigeria fell to DR Congo on penalties in the final. Onyeka had given Nigeria an early lead against DR Congo, with a shot that deflected off an opponent to beat the goalkeeper. This was his second goal for the Super Eagles, after scoring in the 4-0 win over Benin Republic in the final Group C fixture of the qualifiers.
