Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr Could Be Sidelined Until AFCON

Winger suffers ankle injury and may not return before joining Senegal for continental duty.

Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr may not play again for the club before the Africa Cup of Nations after picking up an injury during their 2-1 loss to Liverpool.

Sarr went down in the first half following a tough challenge from Diogo Dalot, visibly frustrated as he hit the ground in pain. Although the 27-year-old continued until the 38th minute, he was clearly struggling after the knock to his ankle.

Set to represent Senegal at AFCON starting on December 21, Sarr’s participation for Palace in the coming weeks looks unlikely. Manager Oliver Glasner admitted the injury could rule him out until the tournament begins.

“We still need to assess him, but the ankle is quite swollen,” Glasner said. “He’ll miss a few games, maybe the entire period before he leaves for AFCON.”
