The Real Madrid star says Brazil must improve after being held to a 1-1 draw by Morocco in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Brazil forward Vinícius Júnior has admitted that the Seleção paid the price for a sluggish start in their opening Group C fixture against Morocco at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The five-time world champions were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at MetLife Stadium after Morocco produced an impressive display to frustrate Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

- Result: Brazil 1-1 Morocco
- Goals: Ismael Saibari (21′), Vinícius Júnior (32′)
Morocco Strike First
Morocco, semi-finalists at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, showed confidence and intensity from the opening whistle and deservedly took the lead in the 21st minute.
Midfielder Ismael Saibari finished brilliantly with a delicate chip to give the Atlas Lions the advantage and stun the Brazilian supporters inside the stadium.
The early goal highlighted Morocco’s fearless approach and exposed Brazil’s slow and nervous start to the tournament.
Vinícius Rescues Brazil

Brazil gradually found their rhythm and levelled the contest in the 32nd minute through Vinícius Júnior.
The Real Madrid winger combined brilliantly with Bruno Guimarães before firing a superb right-footed strike beyond the Moroccan goalkeeper to restore parity.
The goal ultimately spared Brazil from suffering an opening-match defeat and ensured both teams shared the points.
Vinícius Calls for Improvement
Speaking after the game, Vinícius admitted that Brazil’s poor start made life difficult for the South American giants.
“We started on a really bad note,” Vinícius told FIFA.com.
“We conceded that first goal and after that happens it’s hard to get it going. It’s the first match and it’s always difficult.”
“But we’ve got to improve and continue to grow because the competition is only just starting. This is the World Cup and there are no easy matches.”
“I don’t think there’s much to say now. We simply have to improve.”
Ancelotti Urges Patience
Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti also called for calm following the disappointing result.
The Italian tactician acknowledged that nerves affected his players during the early stages of the match but insisted that one draw does not define a World Cup campaign.
“This was a tough match, especially in the beginning,” Ancelotti said.
“The team was a bit anxious and nerves were all over the place.”
“We didn’t play well, but we cannot lose heart. This is the first match of the World Cup.”
“You don’t win a World Cup based on your first match.”
What the Result Means for Group C
The draw leaves Group C wide open and increases the importance of Brazil’s next fixture.
While the Seleção avoided defeat thanks to Vinícius’ equaliser, their performance raised questions about their ability to cope with high-intensity opponents.
For Morocco, however, the result represents another statement on the world stage and reinforces their growing reputation as one of international football’s most dangerous teams.
Analysis
Brazil possess one of the most talented squads in the tournament, but their opening performance showed that reputation alone will not guarantee success in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The Seleção struggled to match Morocco’s intensity during the opening stages and looked vulnerable whenever the Atlas Lions attacked in transition.
For Morocco, the result further underlined the progress they have made since reaching the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Their organisation, discipline and confidence suggest they could once again emerge as one of the tournament’s surprise packages.
Brazil remain among the favourites to win the competition, but Ancelotti’s side will need to improve significantly if they are to challenge for a sixth world title.
