Italian Club Determined to Retain 21-Year-Old Portuguese Talent Until Season End.

Tiago Gabriel

Rising Lecce centre-back Tiago Gabriel has attracted significant attention from top European clubs and ambitious Saudi outfit Neom SC, as his breakout performances in Serie A continue to turn heads.

The 21-year-old Portuguese U21 international, standing at 1.96m, has established himself as a defensive pillar for Lecce this season. With 18 appearances across all competitions (17 starts) and even a goal against Cagliari, Gabriel’s aerial dominance, physical presence, and composure have marked him as one of Italy’s revelations.

Barcelona and Bayern Munich are leading the European interest, scouting the former Sporting CP youth product extensively as they seek long-term defensive solutions. Saudi Pro League newcomers Neom SC have also made enquiries, but reports indicate Gabriel’s strong preference is to remain in Europe.

Despite the buzz, Lecce remain adamant about retaining their key asset through the current campaign. Currently 16th in Serie A, the Giallorossi view Gabriel as crucial to their survival push and will only entertain discussions for an “irresistible” offer this January – with valuations reportedly ranging from €25-40 million given his contract until 2027.

A summer move appears far more likely, where competition could intensify further.

This story exemplifies how Serie A’s mid-table sides are becoming fertile ground for elite talent spotting.
