Club History

Manchester United began in 1878 as Newton Heath LYR, formed by railway workers in Manchester. Financial struggles in the early years led to a change in ownership in 1902, and with that the club was renamed Manchester United. Their home, Old Trafford, was opened in 1910, and the club grew into one of England’s giants, known for producing legendary players and achieving significant success — league titles, FA Cups, and European honours. The post-World War II era saw managers like Matt Busby and later Sir Alex Ferguson guiding United through eras of rebuilding and dominance. Despite ups and downs in more recent decades, Manchester United remain one of the most storied and supported football clubs in the world.
