Former Brazil Star Extends Coaching Contract After Successful 2025 Season.

Filipe Luís

Flamengo have ended months of speculation by officially renewing the contract of head coach Filipe Luís until December 2027, as announced by the club on December 29, 2025.

The 40-year-old, a lifelong Flamengo fan and former player for the club (2019-2023), took over as manager in October 2024 following Tite’s departure. In his first full season in 2025, he led the Rubro-Negro to glory, capturing the Campeonato Brasileiro, Copa Libertadores, Campeonato Carioca, and Supercopa do Brasil – cementing his status as one of Brazil’s top emerging coaches.

Negotiations had dragged on due to financial disagreements, with Filipe Luís (represented by Jorge Mendes) initially seeking higher wages and clauses. However, mutual desire for continuity prevailed, with adjustments including salary increases for the coach and staff, while aligning with the club’s governance policies under president Luiz Eduardo Baptista (BAP).

Executive director José Boto stated: “The positive outcome was only possible because there was a genuine desire from both sides to continue the project.”

This renewal underscores Flamengo’s commitment to stability and building on recent success, as they prepare for the 2026 season with ambitions in domestic and continental competitions.

A lifelong love story continues at the Maracanã. Vamos Flamengo.
