England International Joins on Long-Term Deal – Boost for Thomas Frank’s Midfield Amid Injury Crisis.

Conor Gallagher to Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur have officially announced the signing of Conor Gallagher from Atlético Madrid in a deal worth £34m (around €40m). The 25-year-old England international has penned a long-term contract (five-and-a-half years) and is set to bolster Spurs’ midfield options immediately, subject to international clearance.

Gallagher, who left Chelsea for Atlético in the summer of 2024 for £38m, made 77 appearances (scoring 7 goals) in Spain but featured sparingly this season with only four La Liga starts. He returns to the Premier League where he previously excelled at clubs like Crystal Palace, West Brom, and Chelsea (136 appearances).

Tottenham boss Thomas Frank welcomed the new arrival: “Conor is a top midfielder, who we have worked tirelessly to add to our squad. Conor has captained teams so will bring leadership, maturity, character and personality to our dressing room, while his running power, pressing ability and eye for goal will strengthen us in a key area of the pitch. I’m excited about working with him every day and I know the fans will love what he will bring to the team.”

Gallagher himself expressed his delight: “I’m so happy and excited to be here, taking the next step in my career at an amazing club. I wanted to be a Spurs player and thankfully the club felt the same. It was very easy, it happened very quickly and I’m ready to get on the pitch. I know how great the fans are, I’m really happy to be a part of it here and want to create special moments and memories together.”

Spurs ramped up their pursuit after Rodrigo Bentancur‘s season-ending hamstring injury, beating competition from Aston Villa (who wanted a loan with option to buy). The move is seen as a statement of backing for manager Thomas Frank amid a challenging campaign.

This signing adds dynamism, leadership, and Premier League experience to the midfield, especially with other absences like Lucas Bergvall and Pape Matar Sarr (on AFCON duty).
