Broos Unfazed by Egypt’s Star Power

South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has insisted his Bafana Bafana side are “not afraid” of Mohamed Salah or Omar Marmoush ahead of their crucial Group B clash against Egypt on Saturday, December 27, 2025.

The Belgian tactician, speaking at a pre-match press conference, acknowledged the quality of the Pharaohs‘ attacking duo but emphasized his team’s belief following a dramatic 2-1 comeback win over Angola, sealed by Lyle Foster‘s stoppage-time goal.

“We know Salah and Marmoush are world-class players, but we are not afraid,” Broos said. “We have our own strengths and showed character against Angola. We will respect them but play our game.”

Broos highlighted the importance of discipline and exploiting transitions against an Egypt side that also started with a late 2-1 victory over Zimbabwe, courtesy of Salah’s winner.

South Africa currently top Group B on goal difference, with Egypt second. A win would put Bafana in a strong position to advance to the knockouts.

The match promises fireworks as two in-form sides battle in what could be a group decider.
