Big Blow for Nigeria – Ndidi Misses Rabat Clash After Second Yellow Card.

Wilfred Ndidi suspension AFCON

Nigeria have suffered a major setback ahead of their AFCON 2025 semi-final. Captain and midfield anchor Wilfred Ndidi will miss the high-stakes clash against host nation Morocco after receiving his second yellow card of the knockout rounds.

The Leicester City star (currently on loan at Besiktas) was booked in the 67th minute during the 2-0 quarter-final win over Algeria on January 10, 2026. This followed his earlier caution in the Round of 16 victory against Mozambique.

Under CAF regulations, two yellow cards in the knockout phase result in an automatic one-match ban.

Ndidi has been the heartbeat of Nigeria’s engine room, providing crucial interceptions, calm distribution, and leadership. His absence is a huge test for coach Éric Chelle as the team prepares to face a confident Morocco side playing in front of a roaring home crowd.

Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika is the frontrunner to replace Ndidi in the starting XI. The 24-year-old has shown great energy, ball-winning ability, and composure – he is expected to link up with Alex Iwobi in central midfield.

Morocco booked their place in the semi-finals with a convincing 2-0 win over Cameroon (goals from Brahim Díaz and Ismaël Saibari). The Atlas Lions are on a 25-match unbeaten run and will be desperate to reach the final on home soil.

Even without their captain, Nigeria still boast a lethal attack featuring Victor Osimhen, Akor Adams, and Ademola Lookman, plus a rock-solid backline. The squad has depth and character – this could be the moment younger players shine.
