Nigeria Hold On for Dramatic Victory in Group C Thriller at AFCON 2025.

Super Eagles

What a rollercoaster! The Super Eagles of Nigeria survived a nail-biting finish to defeat Tunisia 3-2 at the Complexe Sportif de Fès on December 27, 2025, booking their place in the AFCON 2025 Round of 16 with a game to spare.

Ademola Lookman was the star, scoring twice – first just before halftime (44′) and then early in the second half (around 50′) to put Nigeria in control. Victor Osimhen added the third (67′), finally breaking his AFCON goal drought with a clinical finish.

At 3-0 up, it looked comfortable, but Tunisia roared back: Montassar Talbi headed in from a set-piece (74′), before Ali Abdi converted a controversial late penalty (87′) after a VAR review for handball.

The Carthage Eagles threw everything forward in stoppage time, with captain Ferjani Sassi heading inches wide and another chance bobbling past the post. Stanley Nwabali and the defense held firm as Nigeria clung on for the vital win.

With six points, Nigeria top Group C and advance as group winners, avenging past defeats to Tunisia while showing both attacking flair and that familiar resilience under pressure. Tunisia remain in contention but face a tougher path.

The Super Eagles suffered at the end, but they survived and Africa’s giants march on.

Up next: the knockouts await.
