British sports analytics company Opta has released its predictions for AFCON 2025, ranking Nigeria fifth among tournament favourites. The Africa Cup of Nations kicks off on December 21, 2025, in Morocco and runs until January 18, 2026.

Morocco, the hosts, top the list with a 19.1% chance of winning, riding an 18-match winning streak and boasting stars like Brahim Díaz, Youssef En-Nesyri, and goalkeeper Yassine Bounou. Their blend of tactical discipline and attacking speed makes them the team to beat.

Egypt follow with a 12.4% chance, leaning on Mohamed Salah to chase his first continental title, while Senegal are just behind at 12.3%, featuring Sadio Mané and a dynamic forward line. Algeria sit fourth with 12%.

Three-time champions and runners-up at AFCON 2023, Nigeria have a 7.3% chance, according to Opta. Under new coach Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles boast one of the most explosive attacks led by Victor Osimhen, but defensive gaps and a challenging Group C—against Tunisia, Tanzania, and Uganda—could complicate their path.

Other notable contenders include Ivory Coast, Mali, Cameroon, South Africa, and DR Congo, rounding out a highly competitive tournament that promises excitement from kickoff.
