Cranes Need Miracle Win Over Already-Qualified Nigeria to Keep Knockout Hopes Alive.

Denis Onyango

Uganda’s legendary goalkeeper Denis Onyango has fired up his teammates ahead of their crucial AFCON 2025 Group C finale against Nigeria’s Super Eagles, insisting the Cranes will give everything to secure a victory.

The match takes place on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the Complexe Sportif de Fès (Fez Stadium) in Morocco, with kick-off at 17:00 local time (16:00 GMT).

Onyango, the experienced shot-stopper, told reporters: “We have an opportunity against Nigeria. Tough game, but it is what it is. We need to keep going.”

The 40-year-old, who has come out of international retirement for this tournament, emphasized the team’s fighting spirit in what is essentially a must-win encounter for Uganda.

Nigeria have already qualified for the Round of 16 as group winners with maximum points from their opening two games, including a thrilling 3-2 win over Tunisia. The Super Eagles can afford rotations, but aim for a perfect group stage record.

In contrast, Uganda sit bottom of Group C with just one point: a heavy opening defeat to Tunisia followed by a 1-1 draw with Tanzania. A win over Nigeria could propel them into contention for one of the best third-placed spots, depending on other results.

Head coach Paul Put has echoed the defiance, reminding players that “in football, anything is possible.” Historically, Uganda have proven tricky opponents for Nigeria, remaining unbeaten in their last three meetings.

As the AFCON 2025 group stage reaches its climax, expect a battling display from the Cranes. Can Onyango and company pull off an upset? All eyes on Fez. 🇺🇬 vs 🇳🇬
