Porto defender strengthens Nigeria’s squad ahead of AFCON 2025.

Zaidu Sanusi

FC Porto left-back Zaidu Sanusi is the latest addition to the Super Eagles’ training camp in Cairo, Egypt, ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. His arrival brings the number of players in camp to 11, as the team gears up for their preparatory matches and tournament duties.

Sanusi was part of Nigeria’s squad that finished runners-up at the 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire and also featured in the team that lost to DR Congo in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoff. His experience will bolster head coach Eric Chelle’s squad as they focus on building cohesion ahead of the tournament.

The Super Eagles’ first training session in Cairo is scheduled for 8 p.m. local time at the main bowl of the Cairo International Stadium. Eleven players currently in camp are: Francis Uzoho, Stanley Nwabali, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, Akinsanmiro Ebenezer, Amas Obasogie, Semi Ajayi, Ademola Lookman, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Igho Ogbu, Tochukwu Nnadi, and Zaidu Sanusi. Media officers have confirmed that 12 more players are expected to join today, Monday, 15 December.
