Gunners legend urges Arteta to restore Gyokeres to the starting XI.

Paul Merson

Arsenal legend Paul Merson has warned Mikel Arteta that playing Mikel Merino as a striker will prevent Arsenal from winning the Premier League title.

With Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz unavailable at times, Arteta has deployed Merino up front, a decision Merson believes is misguided despite Merino’s recent return of four goals and three assists in seven matches.

Merson criticised Arteta’s approach, especially in the match against Aston Villa, insisting that Gyokeres should be starting if he is fit enough to be on the bench.

He concluded that Arsenal will not win the league if Arteta continues using Merino as the centre-forward.
