Manuel Neuer

Bayern Munich captain and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has taken responsibility for the team’s frustrating 2-2 draw against Union Berlin in Saturday’s Bundesliga match at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei. The result halted Bayern’s 16-game winning streak across all competitions but maintained their six-point lead at the top of the table.

In the second half, Neuer misjudged a low corner from Danilho Doekhi, allowing the ball to slip under him and roll into the net for Union’s opener in the 27th minute. Luis Díaz equalized for Bayern, but Doekhi struck again in the 83rd minute from a free-kick, capitalizing on a defensive error by Harry Kane. Kane redeemed himself in stoppage time, heading in Tom Bischof’s cross to secure a point.

In a post-match interview with the club’s website, Neuer admitted: “I made the wrong decision in the first goal, we lost the second ball in the second goal. It was tough today against this team, especially after Wednesday.” He remained hopeful, adding: “But we believe we’ll soon get back to winning ways. In the end I think it was a good point. We got a point and the competition didn’t – and we’re now six points clear.”

Neuer highlighted struggles with set pieces: “We struggled in defending set pieces today, and Union did well in that aspect.” Manager Vincent Kompany defended his goalkeeper, stressing: “What do you expect me to say? That I’ll say something about my #1 goalkeeper? Of course not. It’s a collective game.”

Despite the draw ending Bayern’s perfect run, their unbeaten streak continues, and Neuer’s leadership remains central to their Bundesliga title pursuit.
