Fans stormed Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata after Lionel Messi abruptly left during his GOAT Tour visit to India. Thousands of supporters, many paying over $100 for tickets, became frustrated when heavy security limited access to the football legend.

Supporters vandalised stadium seats, banners, and tents, while some threw bottles onto the pitch. Messi had earlier unveiled a 21-metre statue celebrating his World Cup win and was expected to play a short exhibition match.

Authorities arrested the event’s chief organiser and pledged to review ticket refunds. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee apologised to Messi and fans, calling the incident “disturbing” and launching a formal probe.

Messi will continue his four-city India tour, visiting Hyderabad, Mumbai, and New Delhi, with a potential meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
