Yellow Greens tighten grip on top spot after fifth tournament victory.

Nigeria claimed their fifth win of the ongoing West Africa Trophy with a solid 23-run victory over Zambia on Monday at the NCF Oval 1 in Abuja.

After being sent in to bat, the Yellow Greens recovered from early setbacks to post 158/8 in 20 overs. Despite losing Rahmon Ali and captain Sulaimon Runsewe cheaply, a strong middle-order response led by Danladi Isaac’s 54 off 42 balls stabilised the innings. Selim Salau (26 off 22) and Sylvester Okpe (30 off 29) added valuable runs to build a competitive total.

Zambia began their chase brightly with Asim Mohammed’s 39 off 32 balls, but Nigeria’s bowlers soon took control. Isaac Okpe starred with a five-wicket haul, while Joshua Asia picked up three wickets, and Sylvester Okpe added another to bowl Zambia out for 135 in 19 overs.

The result cements Nigeria at the top of the standings with 10 points, strengthening their push for a spot in the final. Zambia remain third with just one win.

Nigeria next face Rwanda today in their third match of the second round-robin phase, before the tournament breaks on Wednesday ahead of the final round.
