Crystal Palace Boss Pushes Uche to Step Up: Future at Selhurst Park Under Review

Oliver Glasner Challenges the Nigerian Midfielder to Prove His Worth as January Decision Looms.

Crystal Palace head coach Oliver Glasner has laid down a clear challenge to Christantus Uche, urging the young midfielder to step up his performances in training and prove he is ready to contribute meaningfully to the squad.

Uche, who arrived at Selhurst Park on a season-long loan from LaLiga side Getafe, has struggled to make a significant impact since joining the Eagles this summer. The 22-year-old Nigerian international has made just five appearances across all competitions and is still yet to register a goal or an assist for the London club.

With strong competition from Ismaila Sarr, Yeremy Pino, and Daichi Kamada, Uche currently finds himself down the pecking order. According to reports, Crystal Palace are considering sending him back to Getafe in January if he fails to show improvement.

Glasner revealed details of his conversation with the player, highlighting the circumstances surrounding Uche’s slow start.

“I told him, ‘You arrived on deadline day without pre-season to a team that was at that time 19 games unbeaten, so you can’t expect to be a starter immediately,’” the Palace boss explained ahead of their UEFA Europa Conference League clash with Strasbourg.

As the season progresses, the pressure is mounting. Uche must now prove his readiness, fight for his place, and show he can be an asset to Crystal Palace — or risk an early return to Spain.
