Baggies Part Ways Following 10th Consecutive Away Defeat at Leicester.

West Brom sack Ryan Mason

West Bromwich Albion have dismissed head coach Ryan Mason with immediate effect, the club announced on January 7, 2026, following a crushing 2-1 defeat at Leicester City.

The result – sealed by Abdul Fatawu’s spectacular 94th-minute volley – extended the Baggies’ away losing streak to 10 matches and represented their sixth defeat in eight games overall.

In an official statement: “West Bromwich Albion have today parted company with men’s first team head coach Ryan Mason. Assistant head coach Nigel Gibbs and first team coach/head of performance Sam Pooley have also departed The Hawthorns.”

The former Tottenham midfielder, appointed in the summer of 2025, leaves the club 18th in the Championship table, 10 points adrift of the play-off places in their push for Premier League promotion.

Post-match at the King Power Stadium, Mason reflected: “It summed up our season… We haven’t been able to transfer [good performances] to results and unfortunately we’ve been punished again tonight.”

Despite dominating chances in recent games, the Baggies lacked a “killer instinct,” according to the outgoing boss.

West Brom face Swansea away in the FA Cup third round on Sunday, with their next league fixture against second-placed Middlesbrough at The Hawthorns on January 16.

An interim management team is expected to take charge as the club begins the search for a new permanent head coach.
