Former Manchester United and England midfielder Jesse Lingard ended his two-year stint with FC Seoul in emotional fashion, scoring in his final appearance before bidding farewell to South Korean football.

The 32-year-old struck in the 31st minute to give Seoul an early lead in their 1-1 AFC Champions League draw against Melbourne City on Wednesday. He celebrated the goal with a playful Michael Jackson-style moonwalk, a fitting personal touch to mark his last game.

After the match, Lingard was visibly moved, breaking down in tears as a tribute video played on the big screen, calling him “Our beloved captain.” The message added:

“Your name and legacy will always be remembered in the history of our club. Seoul will always be your home. Thank you, our captain.”

Lingard, who joined the club in February last year, made 60 appearances for FC Seoul and captained the side this season. He addressed the fans and applauded them before hugging teammates during a lap of honour.

Reflecting on his time in South Korea, Lingard said:

“I’ve spent two happy years here. I’ve learned a lot, I’ve become more mature, and had a lot of responsibility being captain this year. I can leave South Korea more mature, I believe.”

The former England international earned 32 caps for his country, featuring in the 2018 World Cup semi-final, and leaves South Korea with fond memories, a goal-scoring send-off, and the respect of fans and teammates alike.
