Falconets vs Ghana’s Black Princesses

Nigeria’s Falconets launched their 2025 WAFU B U20 Girls’ Cup campaign with a commanding 3-1 victory against Ghana’s Black Princesses at the Omnisport Stadium in Adjohoun, Benin Republic, on Saturday.

Janet Akekoromowei, named Woman of the Match, opened the scoring from a penalty kick in the 36th minute after winning the spot kick during a dominant first half. She doubled Nigeria’s lead just before halftime, weaving past her marker to slot home for 2-0.

Ghana responded early in the second half through Sarah Nyarko, who pulled one back shortly after the restart. However, Favour Nkwocha sealed the win with a spectacular long-range strike two minutes from time, restoring the two-goal cushion and placing the Falconets atop the three-team round-robin standings.

Under head coach Moses Aduku, the Falconets are using the tournament to prepare for the 2026 U20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers. They outshone their rivals, who claimed the maiden title in 2023 via penalties. Nigeria will next face hosts Benin Republic on Sunday morning, followed by a rematch with Ghana on Tuesday. The tournament wraps up on Wednesday, November 12, with the top team crowned champions in the new home-and-away format.
