MLS Defender Confirms Decision to Represent Nigeria.

Osaze Urhoghide

FC Dallas standout Osaze Urhoghide has officially declared his allegiance to the Super Eagles, putting an end to speculation about which national team he would represent.

Born in the Netherlands and also eligible for England, the highly-rated defender said he is fully committed to honoring his Nigerian roots and pulling on the green-and-white jersey.

Fresh off a brilliant campaign that earned him the FC Dallas Defender of the Season award, Urhoghide used the occasion to publicly confirm his intentions.

β€œI am ready to play for my fatherland, Nigeria,” he said. β€œI’ve told my family about my decision, and I want the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to know that I am prepared to join the Super Eagles whenever the opportunity comes.”

The versatile 24-year-old, known for his strong defensive presence and explosive counter-attacking qualities, expressed his eagerness to help strengthen the national teamβ€”especially with recent concerns in the defensive unit.

With senior defenders William Troost-Ekong and Kenneth Omeruo approaching the latter stages of their careers and injury issues affecting others, Urhoghide’s flexibility across the backline and ability to play as a defensive midfielder add significant value.

Having previously featured for Celtic FC and Sheffield Wednesday, the defender confirmed his availability for Nigeria’s upcoming major competitions, including the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) next month in Morocco.

His commitment marks another major success for the NFF’s ongoing efforts to attract top diaspora talents to the national team setup.
