Sky Blues Hit 51 Points and 54 Goals, Only Second Team Ever to Achieve Feat.

Breaking records and breaking away at the top. Coventry City have etched their name into Championship folklore, becoming just the second team in history to accumulate over 50 points (51) and score more than 50 goals (54) by the season’s halfway point (after 23 games).

The only other side to achieve this milestone? Wolverhampton Wanderers back in the 2008/09 season, a campaign that saw them promoted as champions.

This incredible feat was sealed with a gritty 1-0 victory over Swansea City on Boxing Day (December 26, 2025), courtesy of Ephron Mason-Clark‘s first-half strike. The win stretched Coventry’s lead at the summit to eight points over second-placed Middlesbrough, and a massive 13 points clear of third-placed Ipswich.

Under Frank Lampard who took the reins in November 2024, the Sky Blues have transformed into promotion steamrollers. Unbeaten at the Coventry Building Society Arena this season, they’ve notched 15 wins, 6 draws, and just 2 losses, while boasting the league’s joint-best defensive record alongside their free-scoring attack.

Lampard, already named Championship Manager of the Month for November, has instilled tactical discipline, high pressing, and clinical finishing, turning last season’s playoff heartbreak into this year’s relentless charge.

With the January transfer window approaching and a favorable festive fixture list ahead, Coventry fans are daring to dream of a return to the Premier League for the first time since 2001.
