Rivalry Set Aside as Paul Sends Heartfelt Message Following Fatal Accident in Nigeria.

Jake Paul has put aside their recent intense rivalry to send a heartfelt message of support to Anthony Joshua following the British heavyweight’s involvement in a tragic car accident in Nigeria.

The incident occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, when the black Lexus SUV Joshua was travelling in (seated in the back) collided with a stationary truck. Two people tragically lost their lives, while Joshua sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Just 10 days earlier, on December 19, Joshua delivered a sixth-round knockout victory over Paul in a massive Netflix-streamed event in Miami – a fight that saw both earn huge paydays but left Paul with a broken jaw.

Paul, known for his brash persona, took to X (formerly Twitter) with a mature response:
Life is much more important than boxing. I am praying for the lost lives, AJ and anyone impacted by today’s unfortunate accident.

The post has been widely praised for showing perspective beyond the ring, highlighting that rivalries end when real life intervenes. Promoter Eddie Hearn also issued an update, saying Joshua appears “OK” based on images seen, while the team awaits further contact.

Joshua, of Nigerian heritage, was visiting family during the holidays. Thoughts are with all affected by this devastating event – get well soon, AJ.
