Coaches, Players Indifferent as League Shuns Break for Tournament.

Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL)

The Nigeria Premier Football League will run as scheduled during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco (Dec 21–Jan 18), sportblits.com reports.

Despite five players from the league making Nigeria’s 54-man provisional squad, NPFL matches will continue, with only a planned one-week break from Dec 30 to Jan 6. The mid-season transfer window runs Jan 1–30, 2026.

Coaches and players expressed indifference. One coach noted:
“If we don’t have many players in the national team, there’s no point in stopping the league. The national team can be busy with their job in Morocco and we also get busy here.”

Currently in week 16, Nasarawa United lead with 30 points, followed by Ikorodu City (28) and Rivers United (27). Reigning champions Remo Stars sit mid-table with 22 points, while former champions Kano Pillars are surprisingly at the bottom with 12 points.
