Turkish clubs circle as Super Eagles midfielder seeks fresh start.

Joe Aribo

Southampton are reportedly willing to offload Super Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo for as little as £1–1.5m in the upcoming January transfer window, with interest reportedly coming from Turkish Super Lig clubs including Trabzonspor and Göztepe.

The 29-year-old has struggled this season, falling to the fringes of the squad under managers Will Still and Tonda Eckert. Since Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League, Aribo was expected to leave, but no move materialised despite interest from several clubs.

Aribo has made only six appearances this season, totalling 114 minutes, without starting any match or contributing goals or assists. With his contract expiring in the summer, Southampton are now prepared to accept a heavily reduced fee from the previously estimated €4m.

Other potential departures in January could include Sam Edozie for around £6m, goalkeeper Alex McCarthy, and midfielder Kuryu Matsuki, who may go out on loan after just 35 minutes of game time this season.

Aribo, who joined Southampton in 2022, faces a crucial winter as he looks for regular football away from St Mary’s.
