Swansea City Appoint Vítor Matos as New Head Coach

Swansea City have confirmed the appointment of Vítor Matos as their new head coach on a contract until June 2029, replacing Luke Williams who was sacked last month.

The 41-year-old Portuguese coach leaves Marítimo, where he had taken the Madeira club to the top of Liga Portugal 2 after 12 matches of the 2025-26 season, with an impressive record of nine wins, two draws, and one defeat.

Matos previously worked as Liverpool’s elite development coach under Jürgen Klopp between 2019 and 2024, playing a key role in the integration of young players such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Curtis Jones, and Harvey Elliott into the first-team setup.

He becomes the first Portuguese manager in Swansea’s history and takes over a side currently 14th in the Championship. His first game in charge will be the South Wales derby against Cardiff City on November 30.
