Brazilian Club Hold Firm on Highly-Rated Teenager.

João Victor de Souza Menezes

Tottenham Hotspur have seen their opening £8 million bid for promising Santos left-back João Victor de Souza Menezes, commonly known as Souza, turned down by the Brazilian club.

Souza to Tottenham “BID REJECTED”

The 19-year-old, who has emerged as a key player for Santos in the 2025 Serie A season with 24 appearances, is viewed as a future star by his current employers. Santos are reluctant to sell mid-season, confident that his market value—currently estimated at €5 million by Transfermarkt—will increase further. Reports indicate they are seeking at least €17 million for 70% of his economic rights, with a full release clause set at €100 million for overseas clubs.

Souza, a Brazil U17 international with experience at the 2023 U17 World Cup, has impressed with his attacking runs and defensive contributions alongside club captain Neymar. His contract runs until December 2028, giving Santos strong negotiating power.

Spurs are actively seeking reinforcements at left-back to provide competition and depth for Destiny Udogie, with manager Thomas Frank prioritizing the position in the January window. Previous interest from clubs like Chelsea and AC Milan was also rebuffed, highlighting Souza’s rising stock.

While personal terms are not expected to be an issue—Souza is reportedly keen on a Premier League move—Tottenham must decide whether to return with an improved offer or explore alternatives.

This early rejection underscores the challenges of the January market, but Spurs’ proactive approach signals intent to strengthen for the second half of the season.
