Championship side enquire as Brentford open door to January exit.

Sheffield United have entered the race to sign Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka as the January transfer window gathers momentum, Sportblits.com reports.
According to the Daily Mail, the Championship side are among several clubs to have formally enquired about the availability of the Nigeria international, who has slipped down the pecking order at Brentford following recent squad developments.
“Sheffield United have joined Valencia, Coventry and Birmingham in asking for Brentford midfielder Frank Onyeka who is available this window,” the report stated.
“Brentford would consider a loan with an option to buy on promotion for the Championship sides or a permanent sale.”
Sheffield United are keen to reinforce their squad as they continue their recovery under Chris Wilder. The Blades currently sit 17th in the Championship, five points clear of the relegation zone, and view the January window as vital to stabilising their campaign.
Onyeka, 28, brings Premier League pedigree and international experience, having recently returned from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where he played a key role for the Super Eagles.
The energetic midfielder is also attracting interest from Valencia, who are exploring midfield reinforcements ahead of the second half of the La Liga season. Spanish outlet Fichajes described Onyeka as a player capable of adding “energy, authority and physical presence” to the side.
With interest growing both in England and abroad, Onyeka’s future at Brentford remains uncertain as clubs position themselves ahead of the transfer deadline.
