Iran Still Waiting For US Visas
Iran national football team could face major disruption ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after officials confirmed that no United States visas have yet been issued to the team.
Iran Football Federation president Mehdi Taj revealed the situation while raising concerns over the country’s participation in the tournament.
“No visas have been issued yet.”
The development has created uncertainty less than a month before the World Cup begins.
FIFA Under Pressure To Provide Guarantees
Iranian football authorities are now demanding assurances from FIFA regarding:
- Visa approvals
- Travel arrangements
- Treatment of the delegation in the United States
According to Taj, a crucial meeting with FIFA is expected soon.
“They must give us guarantees, because the visa issue has still not been resolved.”
Political Tensions Fueling Concerns
The issue comes amid ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran, with restrictions reportedly affecting visa approvals for some Iranian officials and individuals allegedly linked to military institutions.
Iran are scheduled to play group-stage matches in:
- Los Angeles
- Seattle
The team is also expected to base itself in Tucson, Arizona during the tournament.
Infantino Insists Iran Will Play
Despite the uncertainty, Gianni Infantino has publicly insisted that Iran will participate in the World Cup.
“Of course, Iran will play in the United States of America.”
Still, with time running out and no visas reportedly issued yet, the situation has become one of the biggest off-field controversies heading into football’s biggest tournament.
Pressure Mounting Ahead Of Kickoff
As preparations continue, Iran remain committed to competing at the World Cup, but football authorities are now racing against time to secure the necessary approvals.
With global attention growing, FIFA could soon face mounting pressure to help resolve a politically sensitive situation before the tournament begins.
