Pep Guardiola breaks silence on CAF’s controversial decision to award Morocco national football team the AFCON title over Senegal national football team.

Pep Guardiola has reacted to the ongoing AFCON 2025 controversy, following the decision by Confederation of African Football to award the tournament title to Morocco national football team despite Senegal national football team initially winning the final on the pitch.
The Manchester City manager admitted he was surprised by the situation but stopped short of making a strong judgment due to limited information about the case.
“It’s a surprise. I don’t have a proper opinion because I don’t know the reason why. I didn’t read, I didn’t see.”
Guardiola also highlighted a broader concern about how decisions in football are often made away from public view.
“But it’s a decision made behind-the-scenes. What happens everywhere is what we see, it’s not happened, it always happens behind the scenes and you don’t see their faces.”
The Spaniard further suggested that such situations are not unique to African football but reflect a wider pattern in modern sport and society.
“That is what happens lately in football and all around the world in other subjects.”
The AFCON saga continues to generate global debate, with players, fans, and pundits questioning the integrity, transparency, and credibility of decisions made off the pitch.
